MARRIAGE REGISTRATION
Brazilian citizens must attend the Embassy in person in order to have their marriage registered. Documents may be delivered in person or sent by post. After having received the documents, the Embassy will schedule an appointment.
Once the marriage has been registered at the Embassy, a Brazilian Certificate of Marriage will be issued. This Certificate must be later transcribed at a Civil Registry Office in Brazil. To register a marriage and obtain the certificate, the Brazilian spouse (wife or husband) must present the following documents: - Proof of marriage:
1.1.Married in Norway: authenticated copy of the vigselattest, copy of the prøvingsattest/melding om vigsel/vigselsbok and the midlertidig vigselattest.1.2.Married in Iceland: authenticated copy of the hjónavígsluvottorð, copy of the hjúskaparvottorð and of the hjónavígsluskýrsla (könnunar- og svaramannavottorð).

2. Form: "Solicitação de Registro de Casamento" (Marriage registration form) dully filled and signed;
3. Copy of the passport or ID cards of the foreign spouse.
4. Copy of the passport or Brazilian ID card and Brazilian tax-payer card (CPF) of the Brazilian spouse.
5. Certificate of non-impediment of marriage or Marital Status Certificate (e.g. Birth Certificate) of the Brazilian spouse, issued within 6 (six) months prior to the date of the wedding. If one of the parties has been previously married, it is necessary to produce a proof of the legal dissolution of the previous marriage. This means, in the case of Brazilian citizens divorced abroad, the divorce sentence homologated by the Supremo Tribunal Federal, in Brazil. For further details, see information “Divorce”.
6. Copy of the birth certificates of both spouses which must include the names of both parents.
7. Original certificate of name change “Bekreftelse på navneendring”. In case of a name change, a new passport should be issued. Enclose all the documents required for this purpose. See information “Passports”.
MARRYING IN NORWAY OR ICELAND
In Norway the following documents, among others, are usually required:
- Newly issued birth certificate.
- Record of marital status issued by a Brazilian Civil Registry Office. In those cases the registry office does not issue this kind of certificate, the Brazilian bride/bridegroom should ask two individuals to formally witness his/her marital status as single with a notary public.
- Certificate of good behaviour.
In Iceland the following documents, among others, are usually required from the Brazilian bride/bridegroom:
- Newly issued birth certificate.
- Record of marital status issued by a Brazilian Civil Registry Office. In those cases the registry office does not issue this kind of certificate, the Brazilian bride/bridegroom should ask two individuals (e.g. your parents) to formally witness his/her marital status as single with a notary public in Brazil. Those documents must not be older than 4 weeks as of the date of weeding.
- If the Brazilian bride/bridegroom is divorced, a copy of the previous marriage certificate with registration of the divorce or the divorce certificate. The proof of divorce should be legalized by the Ministry of Justice and Eclesiastical Affairs in Iceland (dóms- og kirkjumálaráðuneyti).
- Copy of the passport showing a stamp of entry in the Schengen area (if staying as tourist no longer than 90 days), a tourist visa (if staying as tourist longer than 90 days) or a temporary residence and work permit (if staying as a resident longer than 90 days).

MARRYING IN BRAZIL
Those intending to marry in Brazil should visit the Civil Registry Office (“Cartório”) where they will marry in Brazil to obtain a list of the documents required for the marriage to be legally registered.
Find below a list of documents most often required, but remember to double-check in each case:
FOR UNMARRIED PERSONS
1) Original birth certificate including the name of both parents (internasjonal fødselsattest);
2) Record of marital status;
3) Proof of residence (“bostedsattest”);
4) Certificate of good behaviour (“vandelsattest”)
5) Power of attorney (“procuração”);
6) Passport (original and certified photocopy).
FOR DIVORCED PERSONS
1) Original birth certificate including the name of both parents (internasjonal fødselsattest);
2) Original Divorce Decree and Marriage Certificate; when divorced abroad from a Brazilian citizen, one must present "homologação de sentença estrangeira de divórcio";
3) Proof of residence (“bostedsattest”);
4) Certificate of good behaviour (“vandelsattest”)
5) Power of attorney (“procuração”);
6) Passport (original and certified photocopy).
FOR WIDOWED PERSONS
1) Original birth certificate including the name of both parents (internasjonal fødselsattest);
2) Spouse's Death Certificate and original Marriage Certificate;
3) Proof of residence (“bostedsattest”);
4) Certificate of good behaviour (“vandelsattest”)
5) Power of attorney (“procuração”);
6) Passport (original and certified photocopy).
TO BE VALID IN BRAZIL, DOCUMENTS ISSUED ABROAD MUST BE LEGALISED BY THE BRAZILIAN CONSULATE AT THE PLACE WHERE DOCUMENTS WERE ISSUED. ONCE LEGALISED, DOCUMENTS MUSTBE TRANSLATED INTO PORTUGUESE BY A SWORN TRANSLATOR IN BRAZIL
