Visas - General Information
The issuance of a visa is a discretionary act of all and any sovereign State. A visa can be granted, denied, extended or changed according to national interests. A visa is not a right to enter, but an expectation to be admitted.

- If you are a Norwegian or Icelandic citizen, and you are traveling for touristic purposes to Brazil, you do not need a visa;
- If you are a Norwegian or Icelandic citizen, and you are traveling to Brazil to undergo business meetings, you do not need a visa. However, please check below other requirements;
- If you are an American citizen, please fill out this form in addition: Additional Visa Form for US Citizens; please check the corresponding visa for the applicable processing fee, due to reciprocity;
- If you are a British citizen an additional fee of NOK 1.240 is applicable for visas allowing stays longer than 180 days, due to reciprocity;
- If you are younger than 18 years old, an Authorisation to Travel is required. (Please check on "Authorisation to Travel" how to proceed);
- If you have visited any of the following countries and territories in the last three months, you must present a Yellow Fever International Certificate upon entering Brazil: Angola, Benin, Bolivia, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Colombia, Congo-Brazzaville, Congo-Kinshasa, Ecuador, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, French Guyana, Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Guyana, Ivory Coast, Kenya, Liberia, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Nigeria, Panama, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, Somalia, Sudan, Suriname, Tanzania, Togo, Trinidad and Tobago, Uganda, and Venezuela. - The yellow fever vaccine is recommended for all applicants who intend to visit the following Brazilian states: Acre, Amazonas, AmapĆ”, Roraima, RondĆ“nia, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, ParĆ”, MaranhĆ£o, Tocantins, PiauĆ, Bahia, Minas Gerais, EspĆrito Santo, SĆ£o Paulo, Santa Catarina, Rio Grande do Sul, GoiĆ”s and Distrito Federal. What kind of visa do I need?
Please select the option below that best describes the purpose of your trip. For all cases, remember to first fill out the form at https://scedv.serpro.gov.br:
- I will work for a Brazilian company in Brazil: select Work Visa (Temporary Visa 5);
- I am a tourist and/or will visit my family and/or will participate in sports competitions as an amateur, with admissions free of charge, and no money award is given, and/or will attend conferences of professional interest, and my participation will not be remunerated: select Tourist visa;
- I will invest in Brazil and/or I am a manager, administrator, director, or representative of a foreign financial institution and/or I am the president of a philanthropic institution or NGO and/or I am retired and/or I am married to a Brazilian citizen or to a foreign citizen with permanent residence in Brazil and/or I am a researcher: select Permanent Visa;
- I will participate in a cultural, technological or scientific mission in Brazil and/or will do internship and/or will practice amateur sports in Brazilian institutions and/or will work under an international cooperation agreement and/or will be an high school exchange student and/or will undergo medical treatment in Brazil: select Temporary Visa 1;
- I will do volunteer work in Brazil: select Volunteer Work Visa (Temporary Visa 1);
- I will adopt a Brazilian child: select Adoption Visa (Temporary Visa 2);
- I will undergo business meetings in Brazil and will not earn remuneration from a Brazilian source: select Business Visa (Temporary Visa 2);
- I am part of a filming crew and/or I am a journalist working for a short period in Brazil: select Temporary Visa 2;
- I am an artist or sportsperson and will earn remuneration from a Brazilian source: select Temporary Visa 3;
- I will be a college or university student: select Student Visa (Temporary Visa 4);
- I will work in Brazil as a news correspondent: select Press Visa (Temporary Visa 6);
- I will work in Brazil as a minister of a religious congregation: select Clergy Visa (Temporary Visa 7).
How to apply for a visa at the Embassy or per post:
There are no emergency fees. Visas are not issued on the same day the application is received; Whenever there is a doubt on the purpose of the trip or the identity of the applicant, one may be required to be interviewed by a consular officer, who may request additional documents. |
- All visa applications must be filled out online. Fill it out, print the receipt, sign it and glue a passport-size picture (frontal, with white background) in the appropriate box;
- The passport presented at the Consular Section of this Embassy with your visa application must be valid for at least another 6 months and must have at least one blank visa page, in order for the visa to be stamped;
- Plan your visa application in advance, as it may take the Consular Section approximately two weeks (or more) to issue your visa;
- Visa applications are received at the Consular Section every working day from 10:00 to 13:00, on a first-come, first-served basis. The consular agent will tell you when your passport will be returned;
- For applications sent by post, please attach the consular fee payment receipt and a self-addressed pre-paid envelope (registered letters);
- A visa shall be denied to any foreign citizen who, when submitting his/her application, behaves in an aggressive, insulting or disrespectful way;
- If your Brazilian visa is still valid and your passport expires, you can get another passport (from the authorities of your country) and carry both when you travel to Brazil.
Consular fees
- The name of petitioner and the nature of the services to be rendered must be specified in the payment sheet;
- All fees must be paid by bank transfer (account number 7032.05.19126, DnB NOR Bank); please check each visa type above for the correspondent visa fee;
- All applications not submitted by the passport holder in person are subject to a handling fee of NOK 160 in addition to any other applicable fee;
- Bank transfers may be done from abroad: IBAN NO70 7032 0519 126, SWIFT: DNBANOKKXXX. Please make sure that all taxes are included, so that the amount credited to the Embassy's account corresponds exactly to the consular fee.
