VITEM I - Voluntary Work
Foreigners traveling to Brazil to do voluntary work require this type of visa. This category only covers activities undertaken on behalf of charitable organisations and non-lucratives NGOs. These activities must not include employment of any form, paid or unpaid, with or without contract.
This type of visa requires authorization from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Brazil, which takes approximately ninety (90) days to be processed.
The applicant’s passport must be valid for at least six months.
The applicant must have lived in Norway for at least one year prior to applying for this kind of visa.
Registration with the Federal Police within 30 days of arrival in Brazil with the form to be provided by the Embassy.

If the application is approved, the Embassy will be authorized to issue the visa, provided that the applicant meets the consular requirements (see below) and pays the appropriate consular fees. In order to verify if this Embassy can issue your visa please check the list “Authorized visas” in our website.
The authorization for a visa to be issued is valid for six (6) months counting from the date it is received by the Embassy.
IMPORTANT: Do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.
All the documents listed below will be forwarded to the relevant authorities in Brazil.
DOCUMENTATION REQUIRED:
FROM THE APPLICANT:
Certified photocopy of the identifying pages of passport:
If you deliver your application in person:
Authenticated photocopies of the identifying pages will be taken at the Embassy. Legalization fee: NOK 120 per page.
If you send your application by post:
Instead of sending your passport, send a copy authenticated by a notary public (only of the passport’s identifying page). The fee to have this copy legalized by the Embassy is NOK 80 per page.
- One application form, filled in and signed by the applicant;
- One passport-size photographs, front view, white background;
- Certificate of police records (international model) issued by the Norwegian or Icelandic Police (issued not more than 90 days prior to delivery to this Embassy).
- Resumed CV (Curriculum Vitæ), in English.
- For applicants younger than 18: birth certificate complete with parents’ names; in the case of Norwegian citizens: fødselsattest - internasjonal modell from the Folkeregister. Legalization fee: NOK 160;
- Original certificate of residence in Norway/Iceland (international model), legalized by this Embassy. Legalization fee: NOK 160.
- Document attesting the applicant's professional skills or qualification compatible with the activities to be performed, in English. Legalization fee: NOK 160 per document.
Please note:
Prior to being legalized by this Embassy, recommendation letters must be legalized by a Notary Public (usually in the “Tingrett”), for more information check “Legalization of documents”, sections “Legalization of other documents issued in Norway” and “Recognizing the signature of a Norwegian citizen who is not a holder of the Brazilian identity card (RNE card)”. Documents not in English or Portuguese should be translated by an official translator.
FROM THE BRAZILIAN INSTITUTION (ORIGINALS AND ONE COMPLETE SET OF COPIES):
- Letter of invitation from the Brazilian institution (signature recognized by a notary in Brazil).
- Document providing details about work place and type of activities to be carried out by the applicant (signature recognized by a notary in Brazil).
- An undertaking in writing from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the maintenance of the applicant while in Brazil and for his/her return to the country of origin (signature recognized by a notary in Brazil).
- An undertaking in writing from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the medical expenses of the applicant while in Brazil (signature recognized by a notary in Brazil).
- Constitution of the Brazilian institution, i.e. social statutes, articles of association (certified photocopy).
- Appointment act or nomination of the current board of directors (certified photocopy).
- Proof of registration with the respective National, State, Federal District or Municipal Social Welfare Council or certification qualifying the institution as a charitable organization ("sociedade civil de interesse público") issued by the Ministry of Justice (certified photocopy of current document).
- Proof that the Brazilian Institution is fully functional (certified photocopy of current document).
ONCE THE VISA IS AUTHORIZED, SEND THE FOLLOWING TO THE EMBASSY:
- Passport valid for at least six months prior to its expiration date;
- Self addressed and pre-paid envelope.
- Receipt of the payment of the consular fee for the visa (see below).
CONSULAR FEES:
The consular fee for this kind of visa is NOK 480.
Legalization fee: NOK 160, per document.
All applications not submitted by the passport holder in person are subject to a handling fee of NOK 160 in addition to any other applicable fee.
Please note that the above-mentioned amount does not include the fees to be paid for the legalization of the documents which will be forwarded to the Brazilian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. For those fees, please refer to the paragraph “Documentation Required” above.
METHODS OF PAYMENT
All fees must be paid by bank transfer (account number 70320519126, DnB NOR Bank) or with debit card, if in person. For international payment: IBAN: NO70 7032 0519 126, swift DNBANOKKXXX).
Please make sure that all taxes are included, so that the amount which is credited to our account corresponds exactly to the consular fee.
NOTE: The name of petitioner and the nature of the services to be rendered shall be specified in the payment sheet.
POST
For applications sent by post, please attach the receipt of the payment of the consular fee and a self-addressed pre-paid envelope (registered letters).
