Visa - Permanent: Family Reunion
Regulations
· A permanent visa may be granted to legal dependants of a Brazilian national or of foreign citizens holding permanent resident status in Brazil.
· In case of name change due to marriage, passports must be amended accordingly.
· Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of intended arrival in Brazil, and have enough blank pages for visas and entrance stamps.
· First entry into Brazil must be made within 90 days from the date the visa is issued. It is the responsibility of the applicant to make sure the application is lodged accordingly.
· Registration with the DPMAF (Brazilian Immigration Authorities) must be made within 30 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, make sure you take the second copy of the application form which will be returned to you duly stamped by this Consular Section.
Requirements for a visa application (once the request for the visa has been approved)
From the applicant
· Valid passport (the Consular Section of this Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports).
· Photocopy of the identifying pages of the passport authenticated by the Consular Section.
· Two application forms, completed and signed by the applicant.
· Two passport-size photographs.
· Police Certificate of Character issued by Garda Sióchana within the last three months for applicants over 18 years of age, certifying absence of criminal record. This document will be legalised by this Consular Section. Note that it may take up to six weeks for the document to be issued.
· Marriage certificate: if one of the spouses is a Brazilian national and the marriage certificate was issued in Ireland, it will have to be registered beforehand at this Consular Section; if issued in Brazil, an authenticated photocopy will be required.
· In case of minors from divorced parents, a court order of custody must be produced and legalised by this Consular Section.
· Birth certificate (long form) of the children legalised by this Consular Section, with an authenticated photocopy.
· Proof that the applicant resides in Ireland (e.g. a letter from the Register of Electors, or utility bills, or a letter from the applicant’s GP) Based on these documents a Certificate of Residence will be issued by this Consular Section.
· Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see information on vaccinations).
· Most documents submitted will have to be legalised by this Consular Section, or authenticated photocopies will have to be taken. You will be duly instructed when lodging these documents;
· Proof of payment of consular fees (original lodgement receipt).
From the Brazilian spouse or permanent resident in Brazil
· Authenticated photocopy of the Brazilian identification card.
· Term of responsibility (model upon request), with witnessed signature drawn up by a Brazilian Notary Public (Cartório), if she/he lives in Brazil. Also, the Consular Section can witness signatures of Brazilian nationals upon presentation of their passport, and permanent residents of Brazil upon presentation of their passport and RNE card. In both cases the applicant must attend this Consular Section in person. Foreigners not resident in Brazil must have their signatures witnessed by a Notary Public.
CONSULAR FEES AND PROCESSING TIME
· All consular fees must be lodged into the Embassy of Brazil’s account nr. 30095047, sort code 90-00-17, Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin 2, prior to applying for the service. Please note that electronic transfers are not accepted, and that this Consular Section does not handle any payment.
· The consular fee for a permanent visa is €200.00.
· For USA citizens, a processing fee of €100.00 is applicable, based on reciprocity.
· Processing time is a minimum of eight weeks, for couples married for less than 5 years, and 5-10 working days for couples married for more than 5 years.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION
· Holders of permanent visas for Brazil are exempt from paying import duty on their personal and household goods as well as professional equipment, so long as the belongings arrive in Brazil no earlier than three months and no later than six months from the date of the traveller's arrival in the country.
