Visa - Student (Temporary Visa - VITEM IV)

Regulations

 

·         This type of visa is required for foreigner nationals travelling to Brazil to attend courses of study – including theological and technical studies.

·         Nationals of the following countries, whose stay in Brazil will not exceed 90 days and who will not receive any payment in the country, are exempted from this type of visa: Austria, Finland, France, Iceland, Italy, The Philippines, Poland, Spain and the United Kingdom.

·         Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of intended arrival in Brazil, and have enough blank pages for visas and entrance stamps.

·         Applicants must have lived in the Republic of Ireland for at least one year prior to the visa application.

·         First entry into Brazil must be made within 90 days from the visa date of issue. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application is lodged accordingly.

·         Length of stay in Brazil can be up to 1 year, extendable at the discretion of the Brazilian Immigration authorities (DPMAF).

·         Registration with the DPMAF (Brazilian Immigration Authorities – Federal Police) must be made within 30 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, make sure you take the second copy of your application form which will be returned to you duly stamped by this Consular Section.

 

 

Requirements

 

·         Valid passport. The Consular Section of the Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports.

·         Two application forms duly completed and signed by the applicant. Incomplete forms will be returned.

·         Two recent passport-sized photograph, facing camera (snapshots or computer pictures are not accepted).

·         Letter from the Brazilian educational institution confirming enrolment and duration of course.

·         Proof that the Brazilian educational institution is recognized by the Brazilian Ministry of Education and Culture (Ministério da Educação e Cultura – MEC)

·         Proof of financial means for the duration of the stay in Brazil (i.e. copy of bank or credit card statement, copy of savings certificate, etc). Please be advised that it is illegal for the holder of this category of visa to work in Brazil.  

·         Police Certificate of Character, issued within the last 3 months, certifying absence of criminal record. This document may be requested at any Garda Station in the Republic of Ireland. Note that it may take up to six weeks for the certificate to be issued.

·         Proof that the applicant resides in Ireland (e.g. a letter from the Register of Electors, utility bills, a letter from the applicant’s GP, or a letter from the employer/educational institution).

·         Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see information enclosed).

·         Proof of payment of consular fees (original lodgment receipt duly stamped by the bank).

 

 

Additional Requirements:

 

·         Minors under 18 years of age:

 

1.       original birth certificate;

2.       a notarized letter of consent signed by both parents. The Consular Section will legalize the signature of the notary public.

 

 

PLEASE NOTE that the requirements listed above should not, in any way, be considered all-inclusive. The Brazilian Embassy in Dublin reserves the right to request additional information and/or documentation when they are deemed necessary.

 

Consular fees and processing time

 

·         All consular fees must be lodged to the Embassy of Brazil’s account nr. 30095047, sort code 90-00-17, Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin 2, prior to applying for the service. Please note that electronic transfers are not accepted, and that this Consular Section does not handle any payment.

·         The consular fee for a student visa is €40.00.

·         Gratis for nationals from Belgium, Germany, Italy, Norway and Sweden for stays up to 90 days.

·         USA nationals are subject to an additional fee of 100.00, on a reciprocity basis.

·         UK nationals are subject to an additional fee of €175.00, on a reciprocity basis, if their stay is to exceed six months.

·         Nationals from certain countries require consultation with the Brazilian Ministry of External Relations, prior to the issue of their visas. In these cases an extra, non-refundable consultation fee of €25.00 (per person) will apply, and the processing time is a minimum of 15 working days.

·         When visas are applied by post, through travel agencies, delivery services, or third party, there is an additional handling fee of 10.00 (per person). This fee does not cover the posting of documents.

·         When applying by mail, a self-addressed, prepaid registered envelope must be enclosed. The Embassy cannot accept responsibility for the loss and damage of documents in any kind of mail.

·         Please note that the legalization fees indicated in the requirement section above are additional to the visa fee, the handling fee, the processing fee and the consultation fee.

·         Processing time required is from five to ten working days.

 

Other relevant information

 

·         In times of heavy workload waiting times will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.
