Visa - Voluntary Work (VITEM - I)

Regulations

 

·          Foreign nationals travelling to Brazil to carry out voluntary work require this type of visa. This category only covers activities undertaken on behalf of charitable organisations and these activities must not constitute employment under any form, paid or unpaid, with or without a contract.

·         The Brazilian Embassy in Dublin will request the approval of this visa in the Ministry of External Relations of Brazil, in Brasília. Please note that the Embassy is unable to estimate how long this process will take. Once the request is approved this Consular Section will issue the visa.

·         Passports must be valid for at least six months from the date of intended arrival in Brazil, and have enough blank pages for visas and entrance stamps.

·         First entry into Brazil must be made within 90 days from the visa date of issue. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure that the application is lodged accordingly.

·         Registration with the DPMAF (Brazilian Immigration Authorities – Federal Police) must be made within 30 days of arrival in Brazil. For this purpose, ensure that you take the second copy of your application form which will be returned to you duly stamped by this Consular Section.

·         When necessary, a visa extension may be obtained from the Federal Police in Brazil if requested at least 30 days prior to the expiry of the authorised stay (special requirements may apply).

·          Applicants must have lived in the Republic of Ireland for at least one year prior to the visa application.

 

Requirements from the applicants

·         Valid passport. The Consular Section of the Embassy reserves the right not to endorse soiled, damaged or defaced passports.

·         Three application forms duly completed and signed by the applicant. Incomplete forms will be returned.

·         Three recent passport-sized photographs, facing camera (snapshots or computer pictures are not accepted).

·         Photocopy of the relevant pages of passport (certified by the Consulate – fee applicable).

·         Police Certificate of Character (certified by the Consulate – fee applicable), issued within the last 3 months, certifying absence of criminal record. This document may be requested at any Garda Station in the Republic of Ireland.

·         Document attesting the applicant’s professional skills or qualification compatible to the activities to be performed (legalised and certified copy by this Consulate – fee applicable).

·         Certificate of vaccination, if necessary (see information on vaccination).

·         Curriculum Vitae.

·         Proof of payment of consular fees (original lodgement receipt duly stamped by the bank)

 

Requirements from the Brazilian Institution

 

·         Letter of invitation from the Brazilian institution, giving details of work place and type of activities to be carried out by the applicant, including length of stay (certified by a notary public in Brazil - Cartório).

·         An undertaking in writing from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for medical and hospital expenses of the applicant and his dependants while in Brazil.

·         A notarised undertaking in writing from the Brazilian institution assuming full responsibility for the maintenance of the applicant while in Brazil, for his/her return to the country of origin and declaring that the applicant will not receive payment from any source in Brazil.

·         Constitution of the Brazilian institution, i.e. social statutes or articles of association duly                                                                                                         registered in the competent authority (certified photocopy).

·         Appointment act or nomination of the current board of directors (certified photocopy).

·         Proof of registration with the respective National, State, Federal District or Municipal Social Welfare Council or certification of the qualification of the institution as a charitable organization (“sociedade civil de interesse público”), issued by the Ministry of Justice (certified photocopy of current document).

·         Proof that the Brazilian Institution is fully functional (certified photocopy of current document).

·         Marriage or birth certificate (long form) of any dependant or any document which proves dependency.

·         Dependants under 18 years of age must have their original birth certificate, and a notarized letter of consent, signed by both parents.

 

Consular fees and processing time

 

·         All consular fees must be lodged into the Embassy of Brazil’s account no. 30095047, sort code 90-00-17, Bank of Ireland, College Green, Dublin 2, prior to applying for the service. Please note that electronic transfers are not accepted, and that this Consular Section does not handle any payment.

·         The consular fee for a voluntary work visa is €60.00.

·         USA nationals are subject to an additional fee of  €100.00, on a reciprocity basis.

·         When applying by mail, an adequately sized, self-addressed, prepaid registered envelope must be enclosed. The Embassy cannot accept responsibility for loss, damage or delay of documents in any kind of mail. Please allow an additional 2-4 days for the visa processing time if applying by post.

·         Once the voluntary work visa has been approved ( which may take 8 weeks), it takes a minimum of five to ten working days for this Consular Section to process it.

 

 

Other relevant information

.

·         In times of heavy workload waiting times will increase. Therefore, do not leave your application to the last minute and do not commit yourself to travel plans until you know when your visa will be issued.
